Overview

A growing organization is seeking a hands-on Payroll Manager to take ownership of payroll operations across multiple business entities.

The Payroll Manager will manage and process payroll from start to finish while also handling wage and union compliance, prevailing wage requirements, benefits and deductions, payroll reconciliations, and timekeeping controls. This person will work closely with HR, Finance, and department managers and will have the opportunity to improve payroll systems and processes as the organization continues to grow.

Ideal Background

The ideal candidate is a hands-on payroll professional who is comfortable managing the full payroll process from start to finish. This person should be organized, detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and confident working with payroll systems, timekeeping platforms, and reporting tools.

Experience with union payroll, prevailing wage, benefits, multiple entities, and payroll compliance is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage and process payroll from start to finish, including regular hours, overtime, bonuses, deductions, adjustments, and special pay

• Review and validate timekeeping and payroll data for accuracy

• Manage employee payroll changes, including new hires, terminations, pay changes, and employee updates

• Handle payroll deductions, benefits, PTO, garnishments, and related payroll items

• Ensure compliance with payroll regulations, union requirements, prevailing wage, and certified payroll when applicable

• Monitor overtime, hours, pay rates, and payroll-related controls

• Reconcile payroll, resolve discrepancies, and support payroll reporting and audits

• Maintain accurate payroll and employee records

• Partner with HR, Finance, and Operations to resolve payroll questions and issues

• Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, systems, and efficiency

Qualifications

• Hands-on payroll experience, with 4+ years preferred

• Experience managing payroll from start to finish

• Strong understanding of payroll regulations and wage compliance

• Highly detail-oriented, accurate, and strong with numbers

• Tech-savvy and comfortable learning payroll and timekeeping systems

• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

• Proficiency with Excel and payroll reporting

• Experience with union payroll, prevailing wage, benefits, multiple entities, certified payroll, or multi-state payroll strongly preferred

• Bilingual English & Spanish preferred
