Kitchen Staff / Line Cook

About the role

American Jewish University's Brandeis-Bardin Campus in Simi Valley is hiring a Line Cook to prepare, cook, and present high-quality food in accordance with established recipes, health and safety regulations, and AJU Hospitality standards. Working under the direction of the Head Chef, the Line Cook supports daily food service operations, catering functions, special events, and campus dining services.

Responsibilities: • Prepare and cook menu items to recipe, portion, and presentation standards for daily meal service, catering, conferences, camps, and retreats • Properly store, label, and rotate food products following FIFO procedures and maintain safe food temperatures • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workstation, and assist with kitchen opening and closing procedures • Support inventory management, receive and inspect deliveries, and report equipment maintenance needs • Adhere to all Health Department regulations, ServSafe guidelines, and AJU safety policies • Assist with catering setup, food presentation, and service, and help train new kitchen staff as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a commercial kitchen, restaurant, catering operation, or institutional food service
• Valid Food Handlers Certification (or ability to complete a company-provided course within 30 days of hire)
• Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. and stand for 6+ hours per shift
• Availability for evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed
• Knowledge of kosher food preparation, experience working with a Mashgiach, and Spanish/English bilingual skills preferred
• Pay:
• $24.00 - $28.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
