About the role
Temple Beth Shalom is a thriving Conservative synagogue and a warm, welcoming community in Livingston, New Jersey. We are seeking a full-time Deputy to the Executive Director to work closely with our Executive Director and Senior Rabbi and play an important role in the day-to-day life of our congregation.
This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working with people, solving problems, juggling different projects, and getting things done. No two days at TBS are exactly alike, and we're looking for someone who brings energy, initiative and good judgment to the job.
Responsibilities
• Help manage the day-to-day operations of the synagogue office and building
• Serve as a warm and helpful point of contact for members, prospective members, guests, vendors, and community partners
• Coordinate logistics for synagogue programs, Shabbat, holidays, B'nai Mitzvahs, meetings, and special events
• Create and manage email communications, newsletters, flyers, and program promotions using Constant Contact, Canva, and other platforms
• Keep website content, calendars, forms, and other synagogue information current
• Support membership outreach, new member onboarding, and ongoing member engagement
• Work with maintenance staff, vendors, contractors, security, and renters to keep the building running smoothly
• Support clergy, staff, committees, and volunteers with programs and special projects
• Assist with donations, sponsorships, grants, fundraising efforts, and community partnerships
• Help with lifecycle and synagogue needs, including shiva arrangements, yahrzeits, memorial plaques, cemetery matters, and Kiddush
• Develop better systems and processes to keep projects organized and improve communication and efficiency
• Take ownership of projects, figure out the next steps, involve the right people, and follow through to completion
• Pitch in wherever needed — because synagogue life doesn't always fit neatly into a job description
